Ty Fraser was a Friend ............ Robert Burns

Birth:  Nov. 30, 1953
Death:  Jun. 19, 2007

Ty W. Fraser, 53, of Abilene, died Tuesday June 19, 2007, at a local hospital after a three year battle with cancer. At Ty's request, there will be no funeral service. North's Funeral Home will host a visitation for friends and family to gather and share their memories of Ty on Saturday June 23, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St.

Ty was born in Abilene, Texas to Meril and Yvonne Fraser on November 30, 1953. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1972. Ty was an amazingly talented carpenter, having been taught the trade by his grandfather, Virgil Fraser. He spent the last thirteen years employed as the Carpentry Shop Foreman for the Texas Department of Transportation, where he not only did construction but also built furniture for the State of Texas. One of the projects he was most proud of was the work he did for the TxDOT display for the Christmas lane at the Abilene State School. Ty's favorite past time was tending to his plants and herb garden, He recently received his Five year pin, honoring him as the Five-year member of The Herb Society of America. For the last eleven years Ty attended the National Herbal Forum at the Festival Hill in Round Top, Texas, where his circle of friends grew larger each year.

Ty's love of life and new experiences led him in many different directions. He not only loved carpentry and horticulture, but gourmet cooking, wine tasting, music and motorcycling. His most prized possession was a fully restored 1946 Harley Chopper. The many hobbies and interest that Ty pursued led to an incredible host of close friends that were more like an extended family. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gene and Azalee Brewer and his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Alma Fraser.

He is survived by his parents Meril and Yvonne Fraser, a sister, Karron and husband, Don Johnson, a niece, Kendra Gregory and great nieces, Kelsey and Lexi Gregory, all of Abilene, a niece, Tiffany and her husband, Rusty Watts, a great niece and three great nephews, Kaylie and Garrett, Dillon and Tanner Watts all of Merkel. Extended family members Frances "Frannie" Galloway of Abilene, Gay and Pat McKennon of Baird, nieces, Sara Winn of Abilene and Tana Allmand of Wingate and a nephew Chris Winn of Abilene.

The family would like to thank everyone who has helped care for Ty over the last three years. You have all been such a blessing. Special thanks to the Hospice Care Unit at Hendrick Medical Center for the loving care they gave Ty in his final hours and the kindness and compassion they showed to the family.

Memorials may be made to The International Festival Institute at Round Top P.O. Box 89 Round Top, Texas 78954 or Hendrick Medical Center Foundation Hospice Care 1900 Pine Street Abilene, Texas 79601.
